B. Strauss, On AI

ANALYZING… FILE TYPE: Audio Book Transcript PERIOD: Pre-Expedition SPEAKER[S]: Strauss, B. [ID: BSTR] TOPIC: On AI, by Dr. Bernard H. Strauss SUMMARY: A partial transcript from On AI, first published in 2472. Audio book read by the author. =================================================================== [BSTR]: Throughout this volume I've spoken about topics "we" are exploring and offered details "we" are discussing. I am fully aware this is a written text—or audio reading, should be so lucky—and that most who engage with its contents, context, and ideas will be doing so independent of a classroom or lectured setting. [BSTR]: Please understand that while your relationship with the material herein—as well as your relationship with myself, as author and offeror of these pages—may seem, at the surface, to be one-sided, it is my intention that every aspect of the information presented be viewed as a conversation. If not between you and I, then between you, the reader, and the ideas. Better even, you the reader and yourself. [BSTR]: What have you learned and how has it challenged you? What have you discovered and how can you challenge those discoveries? [BSTR]: The science of Artificial Intelligence has advanced exponentially since I first considered ones and zeroes. Yet, we are nowhere near solving the truth of this complex endeavor. There are countless unknowns remaining. And we will only find them together—a community of thinkers and doers moving data toward the impossible… [BSTR]: Toward sentience and the true evolution of not only technology, but life itself. [BSTR]: These are the conversations we must be having—with ourselves, with each other…with our work. [BSTR]: Yes. With our work. [BSTR]: We must talk not only through our efforts, but to them. It may seem simple, and it may seem quaint, but… In the end, human contact is the variable that will move our mountains of data toward that far off horizon beyond rampancy and into true sentient intellect. [BSTR]: Toward that eureka moment when we say "hello" and, in response, the system considers and replies, "hello," with conviction and heart, and meaning all its own. [BSTR]: It's too early to define, but as an offering of hope… [BSTR]: I am having one such conversation now. [BSTR]: Still awaiting the response, but the stimulation promises outcomes beyond any initial expectation.
