FIELD OBSERVATION [00022716.2]:
Something is waking in the night. Some variances in the Anomaly's energies are shifting as the planet rotates away from its star. It's subtle in the readings, but something about the shift in the gravitational influences on the site are causing abnormalities across multiple observed phenomena.
It started with the avian calls—mimicked speech that mirrors colony records but is mainly heard at night. The skracs are not silent or shy in their generally observed behavior, but tend to "speak" during the darkest hours as the Anomaly's patterns increase.
Then, there were reports of movements in the dark. First accounts were labeled as Runner activity, but repeated "sightings" included damaged shells left to rot shifting in their placements—a few meters here or there, or gone entirely. Runners are scavengers—picking at an abandoned shell is commonplace—but the change in locations and the patterns of distant movement observed were only ever seen at night, and only ever recorded within the Ag-Hub.
We know the Anomaly affects technological and biological systems. Shells are both. We know the Anomaly caused both colony-era intelligence systems and colonists to report hallucinations, as if proximity to its influence manipulated perception. Could a neural-free shell be affected in the same way? Theoretically, could the residual self of a violently ejected Runner mind leave enough identity behind for the Anomaly to affect? At first blush, it's a far-fetched conceit—afterthoughts given rabid purpose by invasive alien energies—but we are well beyond dismissing the improbable in favor or expecting it.
I, for one, need more data before I'm willing to dive too deeply into fantasies of reanimated shells and the danger such horrors present. But Orion has other plans. Any threat we identify, no matter how speculative, gets a full security review and actionable defense assessment. Meaning: Cerberus will need access to our data. We've done well to keep him removed from our work to avoid the complications observed in colony AI records. And we've limited his access to focus his interest on our collated reports. This gives him insight into the data while maintaining an arm's length between his systems and the raw anomalous outputs. But, even with our precautions, care is required to safeguard against his curiosity. He understands the risk exposure to the Anomaly poses to his functionality, but as threats to our operational integrity increase, his willingness to accept limited access will be tested.
